This is the history of the centerline. There are a lot of event to discus but few of them here. Michigan did not become a state until January 26, 1837, and what was later to become Warren Township came into existence in 1837. There are several theories regarding the name Center Line. It was more than a hundred years after the pickets were erected around the Fort at Detroit before the first settlers penetrated into Warren Township. There were two causes for this delay. The latter was accomplished by circulating rumors that the region beyond the riverfront was an impassable swamp. During the 1700s and early 1800s, the only vehicle of transportation was the canoe and the only highways the rivers and lakes. Therefore, Warren Township was known as an impassable swamp and travelers detoured around it, snake-infested depths.
