Sitka, AK is in the U.S state of Alaska with an estimated population of 8,968 in 2005. It is the fourth-largest city by population in Alaska, behind Achorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. The name Sitka means People on the Outside of Shee, with Shee being the Tlingit, which is the Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest Coast, name for Baranof Island.
