Selling Gold in Scottsdale, AZ
For at least 12,000 years before the whites settled in what is now Scotsdale, Arizona, there was continued settlement of various tribal nations. The most prominant was the hohokam who formed a complex agrarian society from about 1 A.D. to about 1450. The Hohokam were known for creating a huge web of canals for irrigational purposes in the region. Forced to abandon their villages, there decendants the Pima occupied the area. In 1888 Army Chaplain Winfield Scott purchased about 640 acres for $2.50 an acre. There he farmed the land with his brother George and the area attracted several other people, being referred to as Scotsdale in 1894. Over the next few years the area attracted mainly miners and ranchers. As time went on it became a haven for those who believed the Sanoran Desert was helpful for various health problems. Today the city is known mostly as a business and resort town. Scotsdale is known for its sunny weather where temperatures range from the 70s in winter to high 100s in summer.
