Santa Clara, Ca was originally a Spainish Mission, built around 1777. By 1862 the mission site was home to several hotels, a school, various churches, a multitude of businesss and the Santa Clara College. At this time Santa Clara, Ca became a state chartered city.
The primary business for many years was agriculture with fruit, flowers and seed production being the most important products. However the agricultural side of the city slowly declined and during the 1950s and 1960s was overtaken by the new and exciting silicon chip and semiconductor manufacturing industry.
Nowadays there is little evidence of Santa Clara, CAs agricultural past. The city has expanded exponentially as the computer industry has grown and now has a population of some 110,000 people and is home to many high tech businesss.Just a few of the corporations headquartered there are Sun MicroSystems, Intel, MacAfee and Namco.
