Founded in 1903, the City of Oxnard is the largest city in the Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura metropolitan area. It is situated in the Ventura County and located at the western edge of the Oxnard Plain. The city is named after Henry Oxnard, is a successful business man. It has the busiest commercial port namely, Port of Hueneme and is the home to 2 large US Navy bases. The city experiences mild and wet winters and warm and dry summers. The city is famous for its strawberries and is the largest producer of the same in California. The beaches are large and its home to over 20 miles of beautiful coastline. The city boasts itself with the fact that two great entertainers namely, Charlie Chaplin and James Cameron had their homes in the city. The city also is a tourist attraction year around with many festivals like Dallas Cowboys Training Camp, California Strawberry Festival, Oxnard Salsa Festival and tourists spots like Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.
