The Whaling city or the city of New Bedford is located in the state of Massachusetts, USA. One of the most important whaling ports in the 19th century New Bedford was the inspiration behind Herman Melvilles book Moby-Dick. Even today the 91,365 population of the city is dependent on the fishing and manufacturing businesses, though health care has become another major industry. One of the most alluring factors about the city is its diverse ethnic makeup with 38.6% Portuguese, 9.1% French, 8.0% Cape Verdean, 7.9% Irish, 7.3% English, and 7.1% Puerto Rican residents. The city is also famous for the number of musicians it has produced, namely, the band Tavares of heaven must be missing an angel fame, Hector Barros and Scott Ross from the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, American folk singers Paul Clayton and Nick Dompierre.
