Nicknamed the Music City, Nashville, TN is the second largest city in the state of Tennessee. It is known worldwide as the center of the universe for country music, and is home to the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. The city is 526 square miles in size and boasts a population of 626,000 people. The city was founded in 1779, and was named in honor of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Nash. Nashville was an important strategic objective during the Civil War, with the Battle of Nashville being a critical victory for the Union forces. Today, Nashville, TN is increasingly prosperous, benefiting from urban renewal projects initiated by former mayor Phil Bredesen. Among those projects was the construction of LP Field, home of the NFLs Tennessee Titans.
