The city of Lubbock is located in the northwest area of the great state Texas. Lubbock was founded in 1890, and the city inherited its name from its founder, Thomas Lubbock. The city itself is 114 square miles, and it has an elevation of approximately 3202 square feet. Due to Lubbocks location, the weather is fairly dry and warm, with relatively hot summers and very mild winters. Lubbock is noted for its contribution to both popular and country music, singers like Buddy Holly and country artists the Dixie Chicks reside from this Texas town. A few notable historical landmarks in the city are the Cactus Theater, the Carlock Building, the Texas Technological College Dairy Barn, and the Warren and Myrta Bacon House, and well as a few others.
