Today, the City of Las Vegas, NV is best known for its casinos and gambling. The roots of that modern profile are Howard Hughes, an industrialist and film producer who, in the 1960s, bought up large swaths of the town that ultimately became the Las Vegas Strip.
Las Vegas has an arid, desert climate with little rain. Its economy is based on tourism and gaming.
