The city of Kent, WA was incorporated in 1980 with a population of 763. It was the second city to be incorporated in King County. This city began as an agricultural area with its first main crop Hops which was first planted in the year 1878. This lead to a rapid growth of Kent in the early years. As good as a million pounds of hops were harvested in the year 1888. To make agriculture easy, Truck farming was introduced in 1917 and very soon in 1920s, Kent City, WA came to be know as Lettuce capital of the world. Due to floods Kent valley became fertile and with the construction of Howard Hanson Dam the floods were tamed.and enabled industrial development which lead to Kents rapid rise as a major distribution center.
