Green Bay was incorporated in 1754 and became a British territory in 1761. It is the third largest city on the west shore of Lake Michigan and has a long history of people living in the area much before the first French settlers arrived here. In 1634 a trading post called the La Baye or La Baie des Puants, was established by Jean Nicolet who was sent to explore this resource rich land including fertile soil, forests and animals. People living in this area called themselves People of the sea. The Britishers who came in large numbers after the French settlers soon started calling the place Green Bay replacing the French name of Baie Verte.
Green Bay city has a port on Lake Michigan and is home to many industries mainly meatpacking and paper plants. The National Railroad Museum is located here and so does the Neville Public Museum with exhibitions of art, history, and science. University of Wisconsin at Green Bay is also located here.
Green Bay is unofficially known as Titletown, USA because of the number of NFL titles won by it. In all it has won 12 titles including two Super Bowl titles. This is the most number of titles for any NFL team.

July is warmest and January is the coldest. August is the wettest and February is the driest.
