Carson, California is a relatively young city that was incorporated only in 1968. Despite its youth, Carson has a very rivh past that involve both the Native Americans and the Spanish. Originally the city was home to the Suangua Indians and other indian tribes over 6,000 years before any white settlers came to California. There have been many artifacts found in Carson verifying that the indians thrived on fishing hunting and planting ofcrops in the area. In about 1784, the Spanish soldir by the name of Juan Jose Dominiguez was granted 75,000 acres by the crown and in 1826 his nephew built aq house on the site called Rancho Adobe. Carson is known for the Great Air Meet of 1910 that was held on the site of what is now California State University at Dominiguez Heights. In 1984, the Olympic byicycle races were held in the Carson Velodrome. The recent history of Carson has been primarily political in nature over such issues as stoppin dump sites and unwanted industial parks. The city origionally was a neglacted part of Los Angeles.
