The City of Antioch is at Contra Costa County, in the San Francisco-Oakland metro area. Its community was named after biblical city in Syria. Being one of the oldest towns in California, it has been founded in 1850. Historic sites and museums found are the Antioch Historical Center and Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. An historical discovery was found in 1859, coal was discovered in many places in the hills south part of Antioch and coal mining became the first substantial business of the City. Antioch once became the home of a Chinese-American community, but in May 1876, the rest of the towns population drove all its Chinese-American residents out. November 1, 1928 the historical El Campanil Theatre opened in downtown Antioch. It is now presenting a wide variety of entertainment opportunities including Concerts, Live Theatre, Classic Films, Ballet and Symphony. It is the famous host to a number local dance and the Antioch Rivertown Theatre Group which is a community based organization.
