Amarillo, Texas is the fifteenth largest city in the state of Texas. It is located in Potter county and is the largest city located in the Texas panhandle. Amarillo, Texas was once the self declared Helium Capital of the world. The city is far better known for being the Yellow Rose of Texas. The name Amarillo, Texas comes from the Spanish word for yellow. It is also the location of several large ranches.Among these are the JA Ranch , which was founded in 1877. It was founded by Charles Goodnight and John George Adair. Goodnght later worked with Adairs widow when the rancher passed away. The climate of the city is a dry, arid one. It is also the site of several veterans memorial sites and monuments.
