Missouri became the 24th state of American union on August 10, 1821. It was actually a part of the French regime and the American government bought it during the famous Louisiana Purchase. The state is served by two popular rivers namely the Mississippi and the Missouri River. On one side, the Ozark Mountains stand tall and make the climate of this state cold during the winters. The temperature varies between extreme ends during winters and summers. Agriculture is still a major activity in Missouri and it contributes handsomely to the GDP of the state. The limestone mines of the state make it the leading producer of lime and subsequently the cement industries have also flourished in the state. Sports activities in the state have marked its presence on the national scenario. There are many minor and major league teams based in Missouri and the state has produced the famous players like Yogi Berra, Walker Cooper and Pete Reiser.
