The State of Mississippi was first explored for Spain by Hernando de Soto, who also discovered the beautiful Mississippi River in 1540. This region of Mississippi was later claimed by the french group under Sieur dlberville. In the year 1763, after the war between French and Indian, the great Britain took over the area of Mississippi. Until the year 1798, Spain did not relinquish its claim and then in the year 1810, the United States annexed West Florida from Spain, including southern Mississippi. During last few centuries Mississippi has diversified its economy by balancing agriculture output with increased industrial activities. At present, Agriculture act as a major segment of the State of Mississippis economy. The Farmlands of the State of Mississippi also yield important harvests like sugarcane, corn, rice, sweet potatoes, peanuts and pecans, in addition to meat animals, eggs, dairy products, poultry, horticultural crops and feed crops.
