Selling Gold in Kansas
Kansas, the Sunflower State, is located right in the center of the United States. It borders Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, and Missouri. Before it became a state, a fierce battle between those that wanted Kansas to be a free state and those that supported it becoming a slave state. The free side won, though the bitter feelings caused by the conflict helped lead to the Civil War shortly thereafter. While it is mostly known for having a flat terrain, Kansas does boast a notable high point at 4,039 feet, Mount Sunflower. Kansas has been a Republican bastion ever since the Civil War, a trend that isnt changing any time soon. The Republican Presidential nominee for 1996, Bob Dole, was from Kansas. Kansas currently has 2.8 million residents, but none of them are as famous as one fictional resident of the state, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.
