The 19th American state, Indiana was incorporated into the union on December 11, 1816. Indiana means the Land of Indians, who were the natives of the territory in prehistoric times. Indiana also played an important role during the American Civil War. The famous Battle of Corydon was fought in Indiana and the battle actually opened up the doors of industrialization and growth for Indiana. The Indiana Gas boom of early 1880s ensured that Indiana gets money, jobs and growth. The boom lasted for a very long time and the momentum helped the state to invite more industries into the state.
