The most populous Midwestern state and with the fifth highest population overall, Illinois owes much of its power to the city of Chicago. Formed on the southeastern shore of Lake Michigan, Chicago is the engine that drives the Illinois economy. Home of the Sears Tower, Oprah, and the current President, Barack Obama, there is virtually no limit to Illinois level of influence. Major companies headquartered here include Boeing, Motorola, Caterpillar, Allstate, McDonalds, Aon, Sara Lee, and United Airlines. These companies are all leaders in their respective fields. The 13 million people that call Illinois home will continue to lead the Midwest in the coming decades.
