With its mid Pacific location making it perhaps the most unique state in the USA, Hawaii has a beauty and splendor all of its own. Annexed by the United States in 1898, it became the last state to achieve statehood in 1959. The state was formed geologically by volcanoes rising from the ocean floor, and now primarily consists of eight large islands. The capital city, Honolulu, is located on the island of Oahu. Hawaii is proud to be the birthplace of the current President, Barack Obama. The states economy is primarily driven by tourism and the military. Hawaii is the location of Pearl Harbor, a major US Navy base, and the sight of the surprise Japanese attack that led to the US entering World War II. The USS Arizona memorial at Pearl honors those that perished on that fateful day. Hawaiis weather, as one might expect, is excellent, with the high temperature in Honolulu never dipping below 80 degrees Fahrenheit during any month of the year. As just a tourist destination or a place to live a lifetime, Hawaii cant be beat.
