California is widely known the world over. A by far the most populous of the states, California has an out-sized influence over nearly every activity in the United States. Admitted to the Union in 1850, it was well known in its early days for the gold rush fever that gripped the west coast bastion. Later, many other industries emerged on the Left Coast, not the least of which was the Hollywood movie industry. Other grand corporations based in California include Chevron, HP, Intel, Wells Fargo, Safeway, Disney, Cisco, Gap, Apple, Amgen, Oracle, and Google. California is blessed with great natural beauty, with its long Pacific coastline, the Sierra Nevada mountains, Yosemite National Park, and its grand redwood forests. Politicians are no stranger to California, with recent Presidents Ricard Nixon and Ronald Reagan being from the state. Current governor Arnold Schwarzenegger started his career in Hollywood. Despite recent budget problems, the future of California looks bright. Its people are as optimistic as its weather is nice.
